What Long Travel Freeride Fork

Over Xmas I am building up a 'super-burly' freeride hardtail.

At the moment I have a frame on order (should be here next week - but with all of the false promises and false starts I have had with suppliers over the last month or so - who knows!!!) which is a Mythic/Banshee Morphine.

Now, the area where I am a bit confused is the forks. I have a pretty good budget (£650) and I really want the best I can get for that money.

I really want a fit and forget set, and also a set that won't explode!

I weigh about 13.5 stone and I don't want to feck about having springs changed etc etc.

What I am looking at (and this is where I need advice) are Rockshox Totems....

There are three models and I have been told to forget anything with '2-Step' in it as apparently they are besieged with problems...... is this correct?

I don't want something that's going to bottom out all the time as I am a chunky git!

Lyriks don't have enough travel......

Can anyone advise me please as I really don't know w lot about this kind of fork..... does Marz have anything out there that could contend? Looking for 170mm - 180mm max travel.

Thanks in advance peeps!

Totem coil is just right for the Morphine, you will need to change the spring to suit your body weight but that is also true of Marzocchi, etc.,

spring is cheap and very easy to swap out on Totem

speak nicely to the people supplying the frame and there may be a great deal for the forks

  • oooh i love the totems. couldn't tell you much about them but i'm thinking of getting the marin quake with totem solo's on the front.
I've heard that some problems have been fixed but then also in dirt mag they were highly recommended if you could give them a bit of TLC. I'll try n find the review/quote later tonight.

Coolie!!! to be honest I never thought of buying the forks from the same company - but it makes sense in the long run......

I am soooo looking forward to this frame arriving and I have been dealing with a very nice chap so hopefully I can send some more business his way.....

I have just got a very very good deal for a set of 07 deemax's from my LBS's supplier - touch.

Rob Cole: do you knopw much about the morphines?

  • cool, I must admit it's a very tasty frame - love the burliness of it - looks like it can handle some abuse - I am still new to freeride (plus in my 30's  ) so slowly getting confidence on certain manoveures - i really do wont frame/forks/wheels that will take some novice abuse!!!!

Screams are mint frames man - but I do love a hardtail
