Any East Dorset/New Forest rides?

Any clubs or groups that anyone can recommend?

Looking for early Saturday morning riding partners and possibly Wednesday evenings. I'm an early starter as I need to be back by mid day and can't do Sundays due to spending time with the kids.

This rules me out of all the local club chain gangs which is a shame so I end up hitting the roads on me tod mainly.

I'm out in Verwood - and am currently overweight (be several stone!!) but can do several hours at a reasonable pace still. Need to get back to a decent level of fitness for next year before I hit my 40's when it all goes down hill :)

Ashley

ps, I've posted a few of my regular routes on the site so you can see my usual haunts.

  • Hi Ashley

Im a fellow N.Forest rider as I live in Lymington.

Im afraid I dont know of any club runs in the area on a Saturday.
Unfortunatly my day to escape the family is sunday mornings although I do sometimes escape for the day on a saturday for a one off charity ride or trip round the island.

Depending on what you call a reasonable pace we may have similar riding speeds (I also carry a few pounds - and average around 16 - 18mph over 50 miles) Feel free to PM me if you fancy company on a one off ride here and there as I also ride alone.

    Hey,

I live in Verwood too and me and my mate (34 and 30 respectivley) tend to ride on a Sunday morning but are looking to squeeze in a weekday evening ride once the clocks go fowards. We tend to ride at around 12 - 18KPH average over the ride and will be doing quick run outs through the local forest and longer runs through to the New Forest. We have a couple of 30k ish routes that take 2 to 3 hours depending on how we are feeling.

If you are looking for a no pressure and laid back ride then gives me a nudge. We tend to ride with the right gear but if someone is going to go slow then we stick together on the smooth and do teh singletrack and fun stuff at our own pace - meeting up at the end so no one ever gets left behind.

**edit** we do tend to ride off road though and I seem to have missed the fact that this post is in road bikes

    Thanks Guys.

TwistedHelix I guessed you were talking about off road - I also ride mountain bikes too (actually have 2 of these and only 1 road bike) - I actually belong to the Dorset Rough Riders as well. However I also ride all the local places and know most of the off road routes. I'm always up for mid week rides from Verwood - but I'm not the fittest guy in the world although I can ride for long distances. You can often find me out in Verwood Forest or Moors Valley if I'm having a local pootle. Alas Verwood side is suffering from the logging right now and some trails will need to be cleared once they have gone.

Wednesday or Thursday nights are always good for me as well as the Saturday Mornings. Can't do Sundays though due to swimming.
  • Thats cool, youa re welcome to hook up for a wednesday evening ride once the clocks go forward. I am going to try and get to the Watchmoor bike park meeting witht eh forestry commision this weekend so lookout for the looney on a white On One Inbred Singlespeed. Else drop a post in here if you are up for a spin out and i will drop you the details of the next evening ride out. We aren't that fast anyway and are more about the ride and fun tahn anything else. It would be good to share a bit of local knowledge too.
