Bottom bracket techy q + chainset recommendation please

I have acquired (from a friend) an Ergomo Pro setup which I hope to use with a Litespeed Vortex Compact frameset. I'm also using this project as an opportunity to learn a little more about bike building mechanics etc. Bottom brackets and chainsets are an area that I've always avoided like the plague, but I'd like to know and understand a little more now.

I have two questions:

1) The "type" of the Ergomo BB is listed as ISIS BSC 108mm on the calibration certificate, and I believe that it is English threaded. Can I use this with my Litespeed frame which has a 90mm BB shell?

2) Assuming this will work, can you recommend a high quality compact (say 50/34, 172.5mm) chainset that I can use with this setup? How about this one - http://www.cyclestore.co.uk/productDeta ... goryID=746 ? Bike will be Shimano (mix Dura Ace / Ultegra) equipped elsewhere.

Thanks in advance!

    1) yes. Your BB shell won't be 90mm though. The BB shell is the width of the frame where the BB goes. It will be (alomost certainly) 68mm.

    2) yes that will work FSA also do ISIS chainsets

ISIS isn't very good though (by the way). Unless you really really want to use this BB, I'd recommend buying a chainset which uses external bearing, such as the Shimano HT2 or Campag ultratorque.

If you must go ISIS the check ebay as there are plenty of ISIS c.sets going cheap (supply and demand...)

Isis chainsets are falling out of favour now, primarily because the bearings in the bottom brackets are so small, they don't last very long. FSA and Stronglight certainly make ISIS compatible chainsets - I have one - and if you shop around on the likes of ebay to find an ISIS carbon chainset for about £100. Again, your Litespeed will almost certainly take a 68mm BS threaded BB. Sadly, I can see the fact that Ergomo chose an increasingly obsolete BB configuration as a severe limitation to their market penetration.
Make mine an Italian, with Campagnolo on the side..

    Thankyou guys - that's great.

You are right, my BB shell is 68mm.

I've ordered up a nice FSA Carbon Pro Elite Chainset for £120 (reduced from £300+) having searched around a little as suggested.
