Does anyone have a Cyclo Miny Y Tool? (socket wrench WTD!)

I recently had my pedal arm come loose on the way back from work and had to push it the rest of the way annoying me muchly! So I'm thinking of getting a tool to keep in my bag of tricks in case of any nasty surprises!

I was looking at this at it has a 14mm socket on it which I need BUT I need it to have pretty thin walls as to fit into the tight space around the nut where my pedal arm fits. Does that make sense? I basically just need to know how thick (or ideally thin) the sockets are on here.

Thanks for reading.

TBH get new cranks that use an allen key.

A the cranks will be better and you wont need that tool.

  • Not an option at the moment mate, need to spend as little money as possible so a cheapo tool for tightening when needed is the best option til I can upgrade my bike.

Cheers though, I'll prob just go for it and send it back if it's no good.

in that case still do not get that tool as you will not get enough leverage to really do the bolt up.

pop into the local tool shop and get a spanner with a box end on it that fits. then you will be more likely to be able to tighten the bolt correctl or you will be buying new cranks as if they are ridden lose they will never tighten correctly as the taper will missshapen.

  • It's happened twice in 3 weeks so maybe just maybe it is knackered! I'll see if I can pick up a toot for tightening til I can spend some money on it to get a replacement (if it continues).

If it's that bad, carry a cheap socket and wrench with you. Or some pedal spanners have a socket end that delivers plenty purchase. Loctite the crank bolt as you tighten it. Could be worn threads in the bottom bracket axle. In that case pack them out with plumber's PTFE tape (£1 from B&Q). Not the best of solutions, granted , but cheap and do-able.

  • Okay.....so saying I do need replacement gear what exactly do I need and how much would I be looking at? I'm not a big mountain bike rider, I ride to and from work and a little during the weekend and have a £250 high street shop bike.

Yup....it came loose again tonight :)

    Thanks a lot.
