Anyone seen/ridden the new Condor Acciaio-if so what are the new colours and how does it ride? Their website hasn't been updated for ages. Also, does anyone know if Pinarello still make the Opera? No sign of it on their site, but I'm sure they made them until fairly recently.

  • De Rosa still make a top quality steel frame, which looks sweet.

Im sure i read on on of these websites the Colnago are releasing a steel frame again next year also, seems people are remembering the benefits of a good steel frame.

I have a Condor Pista single speed which is also a Deda SAT 14.5 frame. The ride quality is very good - stiff enough yet soaks up the bumps, no sign of flex. I enjoy riding it, but I use it exclusively for my 12 mile commute.

Of course, it is a fair bit heavier than aluminium or carbon. As a 70kg rider, it would not suit me for hilly sportives or racing with sudden turns of speed.

The Colnago is a replica of Guiseppe Saronni's 1982 World's victory bike at Goodwood. I've got a Gios Aerodynamic from that era and it's a lovely handling bike - but back then, a frame of that calibre cost in excess of £500 - which is about £1500-2000 in today's money whereas the 2008 Master is only about £1000 - so a relative bargain!

Make mine an Italian, with Campagnolo on the side..

De Rosa make two, in fact - the "old school" lugged Neo Primato (available in retro Molteni-esque paint job) and the TIG-welded Corum. Scapin also turn out some nice-looking steel bikes.

Opera appeared as a separate company a couple of years ago I believe, but of course Pinarello are still around. Haven't seen anything of Opera recently but probably still going.

Is Robin that busy? I got mine in three months. And, since I odered in the winter for a spring delivery, got it when I wanted it.
  • I've emailed Robin Mather for more info-this does look like an interesting option if his indicative prices are right. There's also an outfit called (I think it's Steve) Goff in Lancs (Cycles Goff!) which is in a similar price range. I could live with 3 months.
