Play in rear wheel

Hello all,
Had a quick search but couldn't find anything about this.
I have just gotten the bike in and noticed it was making a horrible noise from the wheel rear sounds like metal grinding against metal. Spun the wheel and it does wobble, take the wheel in the hand and move side to side and there is play in the wheel. Does this mean the wheel is on its way out? Is this covered by Warrenty?
The bike is a Spesh Hardrock Disc 06' and mainly used for going to work and back.
Thanks
TB

sounds like the bearings have never been adjusted.
LBS time or have a read of parktools about serviceing cone and cup bearing hubs.
if it is dead new hub/wheel time. not warrenty as it is wear and tear."Do not follow where the path may lead, Go instead where there is no path, and Leave a Trail."
