Guys,

Does anyone know of any decent routes on Bodmin Moor? Been looking on the internet for the last couple of days and can't find a single one :(

Any help would be appreciated!!

Thanks in advance,

Greg

    Not sure there is much.

I have looked in the past. I think there is one from the Temple area and round Colliford Lake.

I think you can get an OS map of the area using multimap.

I've thought this before, its a huge area so there must be something in there! Maybe not anything labelled as 'MTB Route' but there must be loads of interlinking bridle ways.
  • Yeah, it's strange that it never seems to get a mention in any of the mags or on any websites. As you said, it's a pretty big area, so there must be bridleways, etc, criss crossing it. Think it's time I refound my map reading skills and bought an OS map of the area!

Only reason for asking is because I got chatting to a fellow racer at Soggy Bottom last Sunday who's from Truro. We wanted to hook up for a ride, and Bodmin Moor is about halfway as I live in Ivybridge... I'll have a look online at some maps...

    Cheers!

You could always ride Dunmere Woods in Bodmin.

A few of us are thinking of a Dartmoor trip soon, fancy showing us around?

I've ridden in Cardinham woods just before bodmin (heading from Liskeard on the A38), some nice bits but its not all that big, you'd have to do a few laps to get a decent ride out of it.

Did you get my PM Greg?
  • Nice routes around Hustyn Woods, nr Bodmin.
    Also Dumnere and Cardinham.

No known Moor routes that I know of but got to be worth grabbing a 1:25000 OS map and having an explore. After all, Dartmoor has stacks of routes.

  • A couple of us have been thinking about exploring Bodmin Moor but just never got around to it. Can we get a ride together here? I'm in St Austell
  • Could be a plan. I'm near Truro.

  • Matteeboy, I have the OS map for the moors and don't look great. If we do it it may be a matter of going a bit "off piste" and getting muddy and lost probably.

I do have a compass - although wouldn't have a clue how to use it!!
  • I'm not too bad at navigating - Learnt it in OTC (sort of TA for potential officers at Uni).
    Probably still get lost though.

My "Rough Ride Guide SW" lists the Bissoe Trail, a route around my area and one based near the Camel Trail - and that's it.

There's loads of stuff around. Nothing in the Wales scheme of things, but always enough to fill a good couple of hours.

You can fill a 2 hour ride just around Chacewater (Truro) alone. Forget the books - gotta get out there and explore.
  • Don't worry - I do plenty of exploring! Loads of routes found. Just not many that are known.
