Hi,

I've got this annoying creaking sound every so often that comes, or seems to come, from my alu frame. It's really hard to pin point where it's coming from and it's not there all the time.
It feels kind of bottom bracket area, but I could be wrong. Sometimes it feels like it's in the top tube or head tube.

I've replaced the BB, greased threads etc. No, it wasn't that.
I've replaced headset. No, it wasn't that.
I've greased chainring bolts, No, it wasn't that.
I've tried new wheels .No, it wasn't that.
I've tried new cables and greasing the caps. No, it wasn't that.
I've grased the seat post and rails of the saddle. No, it wasn't that.

I was just wondering if anyone has had experience of an alu frame creaking and if it's even possible for it to creak?

thanks ,
kant

I had a creak when i had a pinarello prince, turned out to be the hollow stainless steel bottle cages :? How about greasing the quick releases, where they connect with the frame and forks,it has been known :x

If I close the quick release on the front wheel too tightly I get a creak when riding out of the saddle.

If it goes away when you are out of the saddle try tightening the seatclamp bolt or the seatpost collar.
  • Thanks for the suggestions.
    I'll try some of those.
  • ok, tried all those suggestions.
    Still creaking.
    Any other ideas?

Worn and/or /dirty Look cleats? I've been driven potty by noises which simply disappeared when I put new cleats on my shoes.

Edit: Oh, and I had a really bad creaking noise on my other bike a few weeks ago. That one has SPD pedals. The solution to that was oiling all moving parts on the pedals.
  • deffo not the pedals
  • Had a similar problem, drove me mental for weeks. Took my SPD's off the crank arm and greased the threads (heavy stuff) put back on the crank. Sorted. New to this forum, Hi all from Cheshire UK.
