Hi,
Normally I take part in the odd trail event on my mountain bike but thought it would be fun to have a go at a 'very amateur' road event - is there anything similair?
Thanks

Excellent thanks - the White Horse event looks like the kind of thing I’d like to try?!0

Also look at Audax events - very similar to sportifs - non-competitive road rides where you have to navigate your way around a set route using instructions provided by the organiser (sportifs are usually route marked for you).
Loads of events all over the country and cheaper to enter than sportifs. Starting distances generally 100km (60 miles) upto to 600km+ for the keen / certifiable.

I do a lot of sportives and also the charity events, such as the London to Brighton. The charity events are a lot less serious than the sportives.

Don't go for Road Racing unless you get really fit - blooming hard work...
Sportive's and Audax's are far more fun - although present a big challenge due to distance/terrain.0 -
I would not call the White Rose a very amateur road event. Even the 133 km route is hard and the full one is very hard. 2700 mtr climb on the 133 and just under 4000 on the long.

For less testing events in the same area have a look at TrailBreaks Sunday Sportives which have starting distances of around 75km and are organised to TrailBreak's normal high standards:
