Actually, my wife's bike has a very stiff freewheel, so it is possible to do this - although application of any pressure or indeed just placing it back on the ground "stops" this.0

Yes, it probably will start to turn due to friction in the freehub bearings and pawl mechanism. Nothing to worry about unless the freehub bearing gets very stiff when you try to turn it by hand.0
