Rear suspension help please!

I've got a schwinn rocket 88 stage 3 2000 bike. Basically the rear suspension pivots on the bottom bracket and its the crappest design ever. It's always wearing away the seals and becomes loose, then starts wearing at the actual frame meaning i have to keep replacing the seals. So i was wondering if any one knows if it would be possible to fit on a different pivot system like on the newer rockets.

It would mean having to drill into the frame. So do you think it can be done? Thanks alot for the help people. Cheers.

You can still buy replacement bearings - there are two types of older Rocket, one where it pivots around the bottom bracket, and a later one which has the pivot higher. These are not interchangeable, and you cannot drill the frame.0

yeah but i can't afford to keep replacing them or can't be bothered to open up the bottom bracket and grease them up after every ride!0

what would happen to the frame if i drilled it? Also do you think a bike shop could do a good job of it?0

The original frame is not reinforced here, and you would need to weld summat on/in to hold the bearings.0

so basically i'm screwed?0

Yep! It wasnt the best design, hence why they changed it. I used to sell them.0

how much do you reckon i could sell it for? lol0

150 quid if you are lucky!0

lol thats how much i got it for! So why is it there is no way of making this system last. Ive heard of a bottom bracket replacement kit schwinn used to sell?0

Its because its a bushing, and a pretty crap one at that. Also the rear end is flexy which doesnt help.0
