edited November 2007 in MTB buying advice
According to the women in my life xmas is fast approaching and they want to know what to buy me.

I dont really know what I want to be honest, so any mtbing gadgets or 'extras' that you can recommend might be helpful!

Thats the problem when you get older, if you want something you buy it yourself.

I'd rather not leave them to chose me things!

Price range £1-100.

    A 100 quid voucher ;-)
  • Pedals? Grips? Saddle? Shifters? Some multi tool with more functions than you know how to use?

All these normally get removed from the basket when I'm trying slim down the basket after I clicked on everything I wanted. :(

    Thanks for the replies.

I've got a Topeak Alien multi tool, a wireless computer, and a heart rate monitor that I never use. Also got a reasonable camera and dont really need anything for my bike.

I was thinking about changing the LX front mech and shifters on my new stumpy to XT stuff, but after using them they work faultlessly.

    anything you aren't happy with?

I'm putting breaks on my list this year because i know they squeal like a pig in the wet and half way round thetford they begin to lose power thanks to wear on the fixed pad.

you can do some fair upgrades for £100.

melin are doing an XT gear set for £85 atm http://www.merlincycles.co.uk/?fn=produ ... egoryId=76
    Giant TCR advanced 2 (Summer/race)
    Merlin single malt fixie (Commuter/winter/training)
    Trek superfly 7 (Summer XC)
Giant Yukon singlespeed conversion (winter MTB/Ice/snow)

well if your bike does'nt actually Neeed anything you might as well give in to bling and get a set of carbon fiber headset spacers and an xtr rear mech :) and maybe replace as many bolts as you can with titanium?

My stumpy comes with an XTR rear mech and carbon fibre headset spacers as standard!

I'm so happy with everything on bike that I dont think I want to change anything really.

My brakes are amazingly squeeky when wet as well, what ones have you got?

I also thought about some decent lights, but dont think I'd use them enough to my monies worth.

i've got lx brakes and they squeek too especially with this new lx rotor i fitted it's terribly loud gonna have to get an xt one i think or a hope xt one, dunno yet.

what about umm some new rotors with ti bolts and organic pads? and maybe some dt swiss titanium rws skewers like joz333s' suggestion?
  • How about a really smart multi-tool, new tyres or a full set of hope bike jewellery. If anyone wants a small stocking filler the anodised jockey wheels from e-bay are great, cheap and they last, with the colour really well.
