Headset cup dented

Bought a 2nd hand frame and one of the headset cups has been dented (I think) when the previous owner removed the forks. It is dented enough that the cartridge bearings don't fit back in.

Can I try to bash the cup back in shape or is it a case of getting a new headset?

Can't see why or how you'd dent a headset cup removing the forks (he must have not known what he was doing - in which case check the rest of the frame carefully for dents too!) If it really is damaged, then I'd suggest a new headset is the only way to make it work properly.
  • not exactly sure how it happened either. May have been dropped, but it looks like a screwdriver or something pointy was used to try and pry the bearing cartridge out. Not the diagnosis I wanted to hear, but what I was expecting.

Looks like a trip to the LBS to hand over some more cash
