I'm off to South Wales tomorrow with a couple of mates for the day (got a pass from the wife) and had planned going to Afan or Cwmcarn for some sweet technical downhill / singletrack.

I have been to both previously, but always used the uplift service. And only ridden the Cwmcarn DH track (not the xc trail).
After a couple of phone calls earlier today, I've been told there's no uplift AT ALL at Afan or Glyncorrwg, and no uplift at Cwmcarn on Mondays.

Which place is best to go for the climb / decend payoff ???

We're riding 5" and 6" bikes, so if the fitness holds we should be able to point the bikes upwards.

Whats going on with Afan?? No uplift is almost criminal.

  • Is there much DH at Afan/Glyncorrwg? They're bloomin XC trails you're meant to pedal up them. afan - wall and glyncorrwg whites level are in my opinion the best for what you mention. despite the fact i'm too late with this post.

    Thanks Dirtbiker.

I've heard that the Whites trail has been changed a bit and is well worth a look.
Sounds like I'm gonna have to eat less pies.

Was short on time today so Got 3 runs in at Cwmcarn.
    It's a steep, steep hill !!!

    Loved it!
  • 3 runs at cwmcarn and you think you should eat less pies? the up is good fun though isn't it :D haven't ridden one like that before. get to the top without 1 foot being put down and you're doing pretty damn well I think. whites level is certainly worth a look and don't worry about the pies if you can do cwm uphill 3 times.
What did you think about the rocky section towards the end and the final descent. the rocks are brutal on a hardtail at speed and the final descent gets the eyes watering with speed :D

Definitely earned a few pies on Monday.

Lots of stops on the way up. Serious respect for anyone that can 'clean' ride that hill upwards. The grass section is a killer.

Three runs, but managed to stack-it four times.
Walking, typing and laughing are all a bit more difficult than they should be.

The rock steps claimed me as a victim. A bit too eager going in and not enough suspension to bail me out!!
Had a special moment on the final timber bridge too. Overshot the berm corner and ended up in the fence!!

Going to have to get a bit more organised and try the Whites Level next!
    Cheers,

    Pez.

The rock slabs drops are a lot easier to ride than the mess to the left. Hit them with a bit of speed, and they will be easier.
