Got my 2005 marzocchi 66's out of the garage today and tryed to put them on my 2005/2006 giant reign frame...put them on like i have before and tightened everything up put the front brake on and their is quite alot of play in the headset..so i took it off and tightened everything back up again...same problem. i have had my pike 454's on it for a while no problem and put these on and this happens :?
does anyone know why this is happening and ho i can fix it.
thanks for replies.

if every thing is there and you are using enough spacers then the headset is worb out.

have you fitted the top bearing centering collar.

ermm not sure on that one which part is that...bit confused about headsets :? .
i cant really see how it could be worn as i have used my pikes for a while on it no problem then i took them off put these on straight after and now it is like this... i might go and give these a try on my norco frame and see what it is like.
    thanks for the help 8)

have a read of park tools.

there is a wedge that has to be fitted at the top to locate the steerer tube in the headset.

yeh i know what you mean now i think, yeh i had to push that in and thought it would grip it but it is still the same. took it apart then and looked down and their is a little gap either side of the steerer tube and the headset of about 4-5mm, so when i put the fork in it leant on the back of the headset and rattles when i push the bike forward.....

at the top? then the wedge is missing as that stops that happening.

yeh it was some little silver thing i put in before the spacer which i thought would stop it but it didnt, i have checked it now right through and their is a 3mm gap so the headset is not sitting properly...i can post a pic if it helps.

Youve either not assembled it correctly, or not adjusted it correctly.

Did you swap the crown race over too?

It's a part of the headset which is fitted on the forks

you HAVE to use the correct one for the headset.

they are not the same. oh and if you have used the bike the bottom bearing might be dead.

fit the CORRECT race and clean and grease the bearings.
