Hi,

I've got an orange 5 with a shimano xt m760 crankset, 22/32/44.

And basically wanted to know if anyone has done a double ring setup on one, with a double chain device?

The bike hasn't got ISCG mounts so can i get a chain device that doesn't need one?

I know it sounds a bit of a random thing to do, i was just looking for a bit more chain security over the bumpy stuff!!

Cheers!

I've done a double conversion on my Giant VT, but without the chain device - I really don't have a problem with the chain falling off so I didn't see the point.

I have a Hone Hollowtech II chainset which like yours was 22/32/44. I swapped the inner ring for a 22t Blackspire Chuck, the middle for a 34t Blackspire Super Pro and fitted a Blackspire C4 Dewlie bash ring.

Combined with an 11-32 cassette, this has had the effect of broadening the spread of available gears (it removes a lot of the duplicated ratios) and also increases ground clearance by about 15mm. In top gear on a flat surface I can still spin along at 20 - 22mph without my legs being a blur and looking like a twonk.

You can get adaptors to fit your frame and add ISCG mounts, check out Chain Reaction Cycles. Usually they are designed to repalce the spacer ring on the drive-side of the bottom bracket.

I would definitely recommend this mod to anyone who does more trail riding than speed work.

I suspect that you won't be able to do it on a 5, due to the swingarm/pivot location, which I think would be impeded by a chainguide.

Contact Orange, see what they have to say.
