Is this correct:
Check the shifter is clicked down.
Pull back hood to reveal small circular hole and thread cable through.
Follow the groove around the front of the shifter and thread the cable through second hole towards back of hoods?
I'm a Shimano man and had a quick go at fitting a front derailleur cable to my winter bike yesterday, but it didn't want to go through the second hole. I have a feeling it's because the outer cable underneath the bar tape is not aligned perfectly so I might have to unwrap it to meet the end of the cable?

Sounds about right - the ratchet body needs to be seated on the outside of the lever - depress the downshift button repeatedly to make sure.Make mine an Italian, with Campagnolo on the side..0
