For me, definitely. I use mine for commuting - though I have a choice of an on-road route or an off-road (twin-track) route. I got a single intermediate beam lamp plus a 3 hour battery and various mounts and stuff; it came in (just) under £100 including delivery and it provides plenty of light for the road, enough for the off-road route (which I obviously already know) but an additional set on the helmet would be needed for off-road riding on less well known tracks.wildwildebeest wrote:Also not sure whether or not to wait until january where they have the better batteries that also have different power levels...
Does anyone know what they mean when they say existing customers upgrade at cost price? Does it just mean that everything is reduced for you, or do they literally take your lights and upgrade them?
I did wonder about waiting for the new batteries but I decided to go with the current ones and I'm not disappointed. If you want the ability to vary run time against brightness (or need the extra brightness that they will offer) then wait but, for me, the plug-it-in-and-ride simplicity of the current battery is appealling.
Regarding upgrades, I believe that it means that you can buy more stuff at a reduced price. Whether everything is reduced or just the new things, I don't know. From the site, however, it would seem that there is no need to change the lights to work with the new batteries, so all you need to do is buy the new battery and use it with your existing lights to upgrade. At least that's my reading of it.

Of Ay-ups? Doubt it. The socket on the lights is at the back and the lead on my 3hr battery reaches... (gets ruler) ...about 20cm, even allowing for the fact that the connector is at a right angle.

Bit a of a late reply...
You don't need an extension lead for the helmet light, you strap the battery to the back of the helmet so no need. The battery and light are pretty light so you wont even notice they're there.0 -
For those of you who have ordered the Ayup's, what beam patterns did you go for?
I will use mine for:
Off roading (Bar and helmet)
Commuting (Bar only)
Road bike (Bar (And helmet on occasions))
I had decided on Intermediate and narrow, but wonder if medium might be better for the bars.
Anyone who went for inter/narrow feel they should have gone for med/narrow instead?

I've got a single set of the inters and use it for commuting, with both road bike on-road and off-road with the MTB. I'm please with the choice. It has a spot in the centre which gives it some reach but good peripheral lighting too. If/when I get a set for the helmet, it'll either be another set of inters or a narrow. I reckon that the medium would have too wide a throw and not enough reach for commuting on their own.

I have intermediate and narrow and they're fine for commuting and for off road. I wouldnt change the set up to be honest.0
