I've got a nine speed SRAM chain with the a powerlink in it so it's easy to remove the chain. Problem is I can't get the link to open  .

The chain is just over six months old and has been looked after (cleaned and lubed after every ride).

I had one on a previous chain and found that very fiddly, used to wiggle it around for hours until it popped open.

Is there a technique or special tool (I like special tools) I can use to get the damn thing open?

  • Squeeze the plates together then push them towards each other. Should just come apart then.

Oh my god, how easy was that, knew I was doing something stupid  , just rushed out to the garage and tried it, came apart first try.

    Thanks very much.

  • No worries, got stuck my first time trying to. Had to go digging in the bin to get the instructions out, no man should ever have to resort to instructions :(

cleaning it first can help so you can see what you are doing as well as getting the crap out of the way.
