Hi guys,I like riding cross country, am not competitve, but want a good solid, expedition type mtb, which has a huge fun factor..... Must be able to cope with mud, and would also like good/great lights so I can ride off road at night...

I like my carbon framed road bike, and I love the Scott Pro Team Racing I bought in 1989. And I can buy via Cyclescheme, saving 50%, and spreading payments over 12 months - so I'm thinking Scott Scale 30!!

Don't want full sus, after pogoing around on an early Marin Rift Zone, ten years ago
Are 29 ers any good? Am I on the right track ? should I spend £1500, if I can save 50% in tax, or should I spend more or less??

Hope you can advise, thanks for reading the mail

  • I definitely wouldn't dismiss a full suspension bike based on riding one 10 years ago. Things have moved on alot since then and peddle bob is no longer an issue on a good bike.

£1500 will get you a top of the range hardtail or a good solid full susser so you're in a good price bracket there.

The SCott scale's are great bikes. If you are prepared to go for the 2007 versions you can probably find a good deal as the 2008 models have only recently come out (they are the same frame as 2007 with some different componants and colours). I did a quick search and found this http://www.ukcyclestore.com/acatalog/Scott_Scale_30_2007.html

    Cheers guys,
Saw the Scott Scale 30 this afternoon - 2008 for £1500. I have to have one!
I think I'll stick with hardtail, the full sussers have moved on, but I'm not sure I want one!
    regards

I have just bought a 2008 Scott Scale 20 for £1750, but there is a Northern shop advertising the 2008 Scale 10 for £1999! Pity, I cannot remember which one, but they have a big advertisment in one on the monthly MTB magazines I was reading in WH Smiths on Saturday.
"You only need two tools: WD40 and duct tape. If it doesn't move and it should, use WD40. If it moves and it shouldn't, use duct tape"

I'm going for the Scott Scale 20 - at £1999, it seems expensive, but on the cyclescheme, I save 54% - so £75 per month for 12 months means I may as well upgrade from the 30 to the 20. Yippee, can't wait, first new mtb for 10 years!!!
