Hybrid Tyres Advice Req

Hi all,
I am looking for a set of tires for my mountain bike. I currently don't ride that much (although this is about to change, I need to get fit!) but when I do it tends to be cycle trails, road and some light off road.
I am planning to start cycling to get fit, so maybe a few nights per week going out on the road after work.
I have ordered myself and set of lights, ive got my flourescent jacket, now I need my tyres.
The tyres I currently have are a hybrid 26x1.90, some non discript name, but are showing signs of perishing with cracks all over the tire walls.
I am looking for advice, as a complete cycling newbie I would just be guessing.
I did recently order these, but after two months of waiting and now being told to expect stock late December, I think I need to choose some others.

Should I be looking at something like this?

I notice these are 26x1.74, so I guess this means they are narrower. Is this a good or bad thing considering I am not really a mountain biker as such, but road and light trails?
Or maybe these?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated
Thanks,
Dylan

If you are riding on road only, get a full slick. For light trails and occasional road work, I'd look at the conti speed king.0

I have some Spesh Nimbus I'll flog you for £15. Brand new like?0

for road riding don't buy anything other than specialized fat boys, 1" wide 300g (wire beaded only) and so fast but have so much grip. Totally mental tyres but insanely fast, long lasting (you can run them down to the kevlar strip) and really puncture resistant courtesy of the same!0
