New Bike ? Is this the right time ?

Ok - I have a nice dilemma that I would like some advice on if possible !
After re-discovering the joys of cycling after nearly 18 yrs, I bought my self a 2nd hand Kona Caldera 6 months ago.
I've pretty much been out every weekend since, doing some random local rides and going to dedicated trails like Llandegla.
Having been a pretty good BMX rider (albeit all those years ago !), I've found that the skills are pretty much the same and all the stuff is still in my head - I'm just a lot slower and less fit !!
I've just started to fall off pretty regularly too - nothing serious, just losing it through corners etc, which has knocked the inital confidence out of me.
However, after being with a friend who bought a new bike last week, it's got me thinking about getting a new bike too. (been spending some money on my current bike - new cassette / chain / BB and more planned - thought what's the point - just buy a new one !!)
Bike I've looked at is a 2008 Specialized Enduro Comp - £1600 roughly

So before I take the plunge (I nearly bought one this afternoon, but thought I'd sleep on it for a day), I need some advice........
1. What's the general opinion of the bike ? can find loads relating to Stumpjumpers - but not much about the Enduro's
2. Are there better bikes for the money that I should be considering
3. Is it too early for me to be spending this amount on a full sus bike ? Should I keep with the hardtail for a while ?
4. Is this a good time to be buying a bike ? ie will 2008 bikes discounted in the Jan sales etc etc.
5. I know its a lot of money - but proportionally I was spending an equivelent amount on BMX bikes 20 years ago - but is it really too much money for a rider of my standard ?
Really would welcome some comments !![/url]

Best thing you can do is go and test it and see how it feels. You wont get a discount on a 2008 bike until far into next year!0

I've actually rode the thing a couple of weeks ago . The thing is a heavy brute with poor climb ability cause of its freeride/dh derived fork . Definately not a beginner bike . I'd get something more conventional and lighter like a stumpy . That thing is more a hybrid dh/ freerider than a xc/enduroSpecialized Camber

Dare I say Commencal Meta 5.5.2 - you might even pick up a 2007 one still if you are quick.Commencal Meta 5.5.1
Scott CR10 -
i would'nt say they were bad at climbing, one went passed me on trail awile ago then proceeded up a long climb quite easily by the looks of it with me out of the saddle behind it trying to keep up, think it was clarksons' enduro? the newer models do look a bit more dh though. like others have said try them out first if you can, orange 5 looks good too.0

Thanks for all the replies so far - much appreciated
After reading some of the earlier comments this morning - I have tried to get on a size small enduro today at 4 bike shops today - seems that they are pretty thin on the ground.
Most places are quoting a Jan delivery.
Have been told by a couple of people that I may be better off with a stumpy and am generally comping round to that way of thinking (but still not been able to sit on a small stumpy either ! - the the size police are conspiring against me !)
it's just that i love the look of the enduro........
Any thoughts on the stumpy ?
More confusion though - been told that the back shock on the Elite model is a dog !!0 -
What about the 2008 Trek Fuel EX 7? http://www.pinkbike.com/news/Trek-fuel- ... -2007.html
