Marzocchi MX Pro '07 - no full travel

I got that fork a few months ago. Then I borrowed a pump from a mate and pumped it with air to get the correct sag (20ish mm). Haven't touched it since. I raced, climbed, descended, just cleaned the seals periodically and it works good. But it makes about 80-85mm of travel even after very rough riding and it's a 100mm fork (the stanchions are 105mm long).

I heard the issue could be a bit too much oil in it, set up that way in the factory. Could I try and drain a little bit to get closer to the advertised travel?

You set up a 100mm fork with 20mm sag. That's 5%!. You should set it up with 25% sag at least. That's why you're not getting full travel. Try that before removing oil from a fully functoning fork that's been poorly set up.

Its 20% lol, but I agree, a little more sag may not go amiss. Could be you simply havnt encountered anything that will yield full travel - its good to have a little reserve in the tank for big hits. You don't want to be using all the travel all the time.

let the air out and are you getting full travel?

just play about with the air pressure. got my 36's set up so i get most of the travel, but have about an inch left for really big hits. it could be similar to how you've set yours up.
I said hit the brakes not the tree!!

D'oh, where was my head when I hit "submit" on that reply? Should have read 5% too little.

I thought I could avoid buyng a shock pump, this was set up in the first few days of having the fork and left that way.

Btw, I did some xc racing with a fair share of hits on the fork, but still no full travel. I don't think that's my "big hit" reserve... So yeah, maybe there's still too much air, and reducing would increase the sag a bit and make it go full travel. I'll try what Nick said with no air, when I get the pump and then we'll see! Thanks... :)
