Number of points for speeding to be doubled

Heard this on the radio today: the government is planning on increasing the number of points given to motorists caught speeding from 3 to 6 (if driving at 40mph in a 30mph zone for example, according to the radio report). This effectively means a motorist could lose their license after just two speeding offences. More info on:

    I think this would be great but I think it'll never happen.

    It's the release-the-bad-version-first idea, so that when (or if) the legislation is altered, a watered-down version will be the outcome. That way, campaigning motorists' groups can say "didn't we do well" and politicians can brag about how sensible and "right-thinking" they are.
    So, after a lot of thought, I'd like to reconsider. Please, if it's not too late, make it a cheeseburger.
