Spend £200 and get a sweet set of Rockshox Rebas from Merlin Cycles, otherwise Marzocchi mx pro (better with eta which is a lock out system but more expensive) for about £150
The main thing is that you get the right travel for your frame. Chances are the forks you are taking off are the best fit so try to match up the travel lenght.
For example if your forks have 80mm travel at the moment a 100mm or 120mm travel will change the way the bike handles. Most modern XC bikes are 100mm, although they can be 120mm. 140mm forks tend to be on more 'all mountain hardtails' and the longer travel full suss bikes.
If you are buying second hand on ebay check the steerer tube length, thats the bit that goes through the frame and attaches to the stem via the headset. Measure the distance from the top of the fork (where it joins the frame) to the top of the stem (the bit that attaches to the handle bars) on your bike and just make sure that any second hand fork has at least that length steerer tube.
If you buy a new fork you will have to cut it to length and insert a star nut. If you are not confident about this get a bike shop to do it.
Hope this helps0 -
hi im looking for the same kind of thing but prefrebaly marzocchis and lower than £130 with about 120mm travl. i was looking at the dj3s do anybody know if their good or not
cheers, sean0 -
Reba SL's come out to £185 once you get the discount at the checkout. So not much more than you said you wanted to sepnd.
I hate it when people suggest over the budget but these r well worth the money!

DJ3 is a jump fork. Is that what you need Sean?
I'd agree with the Reba - for a little extra outlay you are getting a LOT more fork. Or less - at only 3.5lbs its a full pound less than the MX Pro, much more adjustable, stiffer and better made.0 -

I just thought it was worth mentioning the Rebas to put other cheaper forks in context. I've bought a set of marzocchis then upgraded to Reba's. It would have been a lot cheaper to pay the extra to start with and I wish someone had told me that at the time.
I know budgets are there for a reason but sometimes cheap is a false economy!0 -
the rebas sound like realy good forks as ive read some reviews but my budget if the size of my dads wallet as hes getting me some forks for christmas.
ive found some Marzocchi Drop Off 2007s and just wondering if they are good iv read the reviews on crc an they get 4.5/5

Its difficult to tell what length fork it will take. I'd reccomend a Tora Uturn fork. You can adjust its travel to suit.0

I suggest you should buy the rock shox tora 289 U-turn 2007 £110 (95-135 mm travel), 302 U-turn 2008 £135 (85-130 mm travel) or even 318 U-turn 2007 £150 (85-130 mm). They can be used for XC or all mountain. Prices are from www.chainreactioncycles.co.uk

PS I'm thinking of buying the 289 at the end of may when I save some more money.0 -
Mazocchi MX forks are exeptionally good value for money. I have a set fitted to one of my bikes and have used them for nearly 3 years with no issues what so ever.0
