I need some advice please, I'm of to afan later this month and thought it would be nice to log my routes i do on my garmin e trex vista cx gps unit, only problem is the map i own is for the south east of england. I'm not prepared to go and buy a map of the wales just for a few days use. I opted to download a torrent and found the whole uk topo map which i thought woul be ideal but after downloading and trying to put it the gps i've come across some problems. I managed to put it onto the sd card but can't seem to get it to show on the screen of the unit, any ideas what i might be doing wrong or has anyone got any other ideas ? Sorry for the long post, cheers in advance

When you say you've put the download on your SD card do you mean you've copied the downloaded file straight across?

Is the map you already own one of the ones pre-installed on an SD card?

To get my base maps across to my Vista I open the mapsource software on the PC and use the Send to Device function (Transfer menu) to get the base maps across. The first time I used the TOPO GB software I had to ring Garmin to get a 25 digit unlock code to be able to use the TOPO GB CD that I bought with my unit. I think the unlock code is somehow tied to the serial number of my Garmin unit, I think each unlock code allows you to use the map on a maximum of two garmin units.

That said I bought my copy of TOPO GB, there could just be something wrong with the version you downloaded. Hope that helps.
