Cycle Trainer front wheel support

I want to use my indoor trainer without having the front wheel attached (space restrictions). I therefore need to find a support bracket that the front forks can attach to at an appropriate height of the ground.

This is the kind of thing I'm after but I'm not keen on paying this kind of money.

Before I try and improvise something, does anyone know if alternative brackets/ stand might be commercially available?

  • Stu,

Tacx have a wee stand thing that holds you front wheel steady for about a tenner.

    have a look

  • I think you need something like this and then a trip to B&Q for some wood to build your own. Thats about the only way I can see for you to get anything under 20 quid

You may be able to pick up roof rack fitting above cheaper on other sites/ebay. In terms of front wheel riser for my turbo I've got a piece of planed 3x5with some 1x1 on each side which was lying in my shed. Serves purpose better than telephone directory..

I was thinking along the lines of a roofrack front fork carrier too - trouble is by the time you've screwed it to a piece of wood to give you enough height and stability, it might not be any shorter than using your front wheel anyway.
Make mine an Italian, with Campagnolo on the side..

  • Surely you could use this without the need for a frame around it. the trainer will hold your bike in one spot.

Thanks for all your suggestions. I have a spare roof rack carrier attachment that the forks can attach to so the main challenge will be to mount this on a suitable wooden base at the right height.

Thanks for offer of your custom made supports Dave - I may take you up on this if my improvisation is unsuccessful. One potential problem with your solution is that it looks like I would have to remove the forks which I'm not too keen to do as the bike is sometimes taken out on the road.
