quick shock pump question

I got my first ever shock pump last night and have just wanted to check its not bust....
When you use it I would expect air to come out of the pump as soon as you start to push the handle down (as with normal tyre pumps). But, it doesnt, all you get is a small puff of air right toward the end of the stroke.
This kind of makes sense given its a high presure pump, just wanted to check....

Just checked mine and I get air all the way through the stroke. Mines a Fox one.0

Mines the same only pumps air the final 1/4 or 1/5th of the stroke. I don't know what sort it is as it came with my bike (Giant Trance). It works perfectly well for accurate adjustment of the shock.0

shock pumps are low volume and high pressure. and in use they only pump a small amount of air.
have you used it in the shock yet? does it work? so whats the problem?"Do not follow where the path may lead, Go instead where there is no path, and Leave a Trail."
