Non-grippy leg grippers

So after the Singletrack magazine shorts test I lashed out on a set of the Cannondale LE Carbon bib shorts (mostly for road riding). Good pad, good bib, pretty good fit. BUT the leg grippers are appalling. They don't grip on my (mildly hairy) legs and they don't grip on leg warmers. End result is a lot of lycra wedged in my crotch and chafing like a b@stard.

Any ideas as how to sort it? The leg grippers are a plain rubber strip. I'm wondering if I could apply a thin zigzag of silicone sealant like Endura shorts have.

(I've worn them maybe 6 times now, so sending them back isn't really an option.)

Thank y'all...

Probably more effective than this approach................

Or you could start shaving your legs - leg grippers work much better on smooth skin.

Get down the gym and start doing some leg presses - or get a bodybuilder to flog you some 'roids! (kiddin' honest)

Being serious, if you got them from the LBS, take them back anyway and kick up a fuss. They are not much cop as shorts if they cause chaffing and a decent LBS will take it up with the manufacturer for you.

If you do decide keep them, can't see there is much you can do practically to improve them. Smearing silicone all over them will definitely void any warranty you may have (very limited with clothing anyway). Mark it down to experience that not all products live up to their product tests - stop buying Singletrack and buy Cycling Plus instead  .
  • Gussio & monty - the more I seem to ride the skinnier my legs seem to get. Gyms? What are they???

Bronze. I'm an MTBer who occasionally dabbles in the dark side. No way is a razor EVER coming near my manly growth! Unfortunately they came from CRC (they were doing them almost 1/2 price) so its not so easy to return them as if it was my LBS (Evans!)

TBH, I think its something to do with the cut too. - They don't seem to have enough stretch/slack in the back of the short leg to deal with the angle my leg bends through at the top of the pedal stroke. The grippers being grippier would help, but only partially i suspect.

Wash them and send them back as "not fit for purpose." Then if you are on a budget get onto Wiggle an order some DHB bibs, they're v good. If you have some cash to splash then get yourself some Castelli Free bibs, so good I bought 2 pairs!

Alternatively, ask Paul Vincent how he copes with 'baggy' lycra - he often sports a pair in C+ photo shoots! Seriously, the reason the shorts were half price is obvious - they're rubbish! Try a different make - even better if you can try them on beforehand
