Recently purchased the Fluid 2 turbo trainer. I've used for about 6 hours only and now its developed a flapping/knocking/machine gun like noise as opposed to a whirring noise. Is this normal?

Cheers.

I wouldn't worry, Steve, they are great trainers. I have one and it's fine.

  • To be honest, if you read the user reviews scattered around t'internet its obvious that there has been a problem with this model in the past with leakage and reliability. I still bought it on the basis that its warranted, woggle are reasonably honourable, and Im not strong enough nor motivated enough to wear it out that fast! The benefits of it easily outweigh the potential risk of failure IMO.

That does sound right at all.

I've had one for nearly 12 months it gets used at least twice at week now the clocks have changed and I used it pretty much every day in January and February this year I've never had a problem with mine.
  • I'll give it another go over the weekend and let you know what I think. If I think its defective I'll order another, wait for it to arrive and then send this one back (to Woggle!).

    Thanks for your input.

EDIT: Is there another fluid trainer that you could recommend? Elite maybe?
  • Got mine today, set it up easily enough, build qulaity is only so so IMO compared to Tracx stuff, plus the biggest disappointment of all is there is nowhere near as much resistance than a Tacx sirius, which is rated at a lower max brake power. I could fialry easily hit 90 rpm in jeans and no shoes in a 50x12 gear, which frankly cant be right. So either its set up wrongly (though how I cant see) or its crap/broken....unless is needs to "warm up"??
Otherwise its going back and I'm swapping it for a Tacx

Steve, I've adjusted mine at the back to give more resistance. Just turn the twisty thing so the roller has more contact with the tyre. Believe me I'm no weed and I can do some eye-popping, lung-busting intervals on my machine.

Its adjusted so that the the roller visibly depresses the tyre where they contact. Does the resistance increase when it warms up (though you might expect the opposite to happen as the viscosity decreases with increasing temp)?

I'll try it for the week and if its no improvement then I will ask for a replacement fluid unit.

sorry to resurrect this thread - but did you sort out the resistance on the unit?
I have just ordered one today (from wiggle too so it should be here tomorrow)

of course, I should have researched it beforehand.....

If you are referring to my post then yes, its perfectly adequate for training for my targets next year, It has plenty of resistance for a full on 100% TT effort. In fact, you can do 30 seconds max sprints, I can manage about 33-34 mph for about 20 secs then die horribly. Thats only on a 50x 12 gear so if you are using a more race orientated 53x11 you'll struggle to overpower it. The more I use it, the more I like it.
