According to 02's website you buy the iPhone for £269 and you enter into a 18 month contract, with the monthly tariff ranging between £35-55.
Gadget show did a good review of it the other night.
  • Note: No camera, no MMS, no recording. It WILL cost you just! £899 over 18 months. Just remember that. Oh and the handset isn't warrantied by O2, it's by Apple so you have two middlemen to deal with if the whole thing goes wrong.

Get an iPod nano (£99), cheap nokia (£29) and PAYG O2 Genie SIM (£10/month - 500 free mins!) and you're sorted for £308 over the same period. Oh and you don't have to renew your contract for half of your ipod to continue working.

I own a Mac and a PC so I'm not biased there. It's just not a very good deal to be honest.[/i]

My favourite review of the iPhone

I just got the new k850i and its excellent. Then with the cash you save from not buying an iphone you can buy a Creative Zen Vision M!

I'll see you at the end.

You'll see me on the floor.

If I had the cash to burn on an I-Phone I wouldn't because of the lack of features. It would be taking a step back. In the US of A they were offering the I-Phone 2 weeks after launch with significant discounts, hang fire for a month or two and see how the uptake has been. Don't jump on the bandwagon with a crap phone.
I've added a signature to prove it is still possible.

Fully agree. Let the Starbucks sippin' fashionistas jump on the bandwagon now and bide your time until Apple reduce the price.

Having said that, even with a price reduction the features are still really lacking, especially for something touted as gadget of the year.

If you want a fancy touch screen phone then check out the new LG U990 (aka LG Viewty) or the HTC Touch. Far more features for the money... and I dont think either are locked to one provider.

The iPod Touch is nice mind you... but only 16GB for the guts of £300 is asking a lot. That's Apple for you though - you're paying for image as well as the product.

  • I don't get these zero-tactile effect displays though. I rarely look at my Shuffle as the controls are simple and do sensible things, but I get the feeling I'd have to look at the iPhone / Touch display all the time.

    True.

I generally find that those who would buy an iPhone / iPod Touch are the type of people who would enjoy getting them out as then all the people on the bus/ in the office/ on the tube etc can see what they've got. They thrive of the "look at what I've got" factor.

Most would never admit to that though... but they know deep down it's true ;)

  • Aye. I think you hit the nail on the head there.

I actually went and played with the Touch when it came out but could find no value for myself over the Shuffle.

On the same subject actually, my sister just bought a new Shuffle to replace her old one because she wanted one a different colour. To think I came from the same gene pool

I got the LG KU990 phone, is nice is pretty much and mini Iphoen without all the features i don't need but will a 5mp camera and 120fps video and divx support and it wasa free upgrade....having been a SE person for many years I just hated using the k850..which is a shame if they'd only made the keypad the same as the k800 they'd have had a winner
  • I found the solution!

    Ha ha very nice :D
    I want one.
Will it fit in my pocket?
  • Wouldn't need a pocket. You'd need to wave it all around like in the iPod adverts.

    edit: I'm starting a campaign!!!

I hated the keypad on my K850i at first, having come from a K750i (same keypad style as the K800i). After about an hour, I can now text more easily with the K8501. I much prefer the buttons over the joystick. The touch buttons are great. camera's brilliant. The whole phone's great, but the keypad did need a little getting used to.
  • Can't beleive how people qued for it on TV the kind of people that will buy it the type to flash gadgets around won't they already have I-pods?
I wonder what battery life is like on it anyway? It just doesn't appeal to me at all buttons work.

I thought that the other interesting point on TV last week was the hackers who were altering the phones to allow other networks and programmes.

In the US they were warned that this might render the phons inoperable, and sure enough come upgrade time (automatic) hundreds of IPhones that are permannetly disabled with no comeback whatsoever!

ALthough apparently there is now a law suit stating that Apple have "harmed" customers!

I just ordered an N95 - looks the bollox
  • Apparently only the Apple stores in London (Regent Street/Brent Cross) were the busy ones. The one in Kingston was dead as a dodo and most O2 stores were pretty much "empty". According to my friend at Nottingham apple store, they sold only 18 handsets on release day (wow - not!).

I think people are too savvy and cost concious here to splurge out on something like an iPhone.

lol, loved the 'review'. it seems pointless, just another marketing tool for apple. an expensie one at that! no doubt it'll break soon too, about 2 weeks after getting it.

im sorry, but it doenst do much for me. other than make me think how pointless it is.
I said hit the brakes not the tree!!

  • They are so not worth the money. Think of how much that is over eighteen months (£889) and what you could get instead or how much you could save by getting a phone, and an i-pod. Plus how pissed off would you be if you dropped it or lost it. :P
