Truvativ Power Spline Bottom Bracket - take it on?

Hi
I've got a rather unpleasant crunchy noise coming from what I'm sure (previous experience and some investigation tells me) is the bottom bracket on my 2005 Marin Nail Trail. With Xmas et al coming and funds tight as ever I'm quite keen to try and sort this problem out myself rather than resort to the LBS as I usually would in such cases, plus I'm just generally keen to be able to 'do more'.
I've looked at the Park website but still a bit unclear on a few things relating to my bike, namely the BB type and the axle width. Hoping someone can set me straight.
The Park website makes ref to Shimano BBs and ISIS type BBs but I'm not sure mine is either. The cranks say 'Power Spline' design (as per spec sheet) and I see on Wiggle there is a specific Truvativ BB with Power Spline attachment...
http://www.wiggle.co.uk/ProductDetail.aspx?Cat=cycle&ProdID=5360021110&N=Truvativ%20Power%20Spline%20Bottom%20Bracket
Is this likely to be my BB, or rather the one I need to replace it (of course it's not mine!)?
If so, what axle width do I need? The bike is 17.5" frame with triple chainset so I'm guessing 113mm but that's all it is, pure guesswork.
Now assuming I'm on the right track so far, I'm going to need a crank puller tool of some sort (right?) and a tool for removing the BB itself. With regard to the BB tool, is this likely to be the right tool?
http://www.parktool.com/products/detail.asp?cat=26&item=BBT-22
It seems like that's pretty much the only standard (20 'teeth') out there for these cartridge BBs and the blurb does reference Truvativ.
There is a note on the Park website about crank removal which seems to be referring to my crank type (they do have an 8mm bolt)...
I'm guessing this means I need one of the crank pullers recommended?
Any other advice? Sorry for the long post but I know the first response to most of these is usually "Park Tool" or "more info please" - just wanted to show I really have investigated but am still a bit confused about taking this on.

NOTE: There is a crank-spindle interface called "power spline" that uses a spline spindle. The crank bolt is an 8mm thread. Because the hole in the spindle is small, use the CCP-2 or CWP-6 for this crank, the same tools for a square spindle.

yes you will need a powerspline bb. no other will work with your cranks.
you will need a standard shimano pattern bb tool. and you will need a crank puller, (get one with both size "ends" good for other crank designs latter.
axel length does depend on the actuall cranks and the bb she length.
the axel shell length info is on Truvative site. or you could dismantle and measure the axel length. but i guess you will be ordering everything together, shell is likly to be 68mm and i guess a 113mm axel but without what cranks it is a guess.
re park just follow the cartridge bb infos."Do not follow where the path may lead, Go instead where there is no path, and Leave a Trail."

Impressive response time Nicklouse - a round of applause for that at this hour!
Cheers for the advice - the Truvativ website refers to a spacer being used on the 68mm/ 113mm BB and I can see a spacer on the drive side of mine (as per their diagram) so it looks like you're right about the dimensions. Ok, seems like I've got my head round it, no fear!
Of course the 'cheap' option of DIY still makes it about £25 when you don't have any of the tools. Ah well, it'll pay for itself next time round.0 -

I had this problem on my Giant Terrago too, fortunately I'd recently purchased one of the Lidl bike tool kits which included both a crank-puller and the Shimano BB tool! This allowed me to remove the existing BB and read off the size. I'd previously measured the crank width, and come up with 113mm, so I'm glad I checked before ordering
CRC sell the Powerspline BB (around £12 I think) though the 118mm BB I needed took a fortnight to come through. Changing was a doddle, though I didnt face the frame.0
