Looking for some new knee/shin pads

Hi all,
Ive got some 661 Race knee/shin pads, which I have been using for a while.
However, I always found them a bit big and bulky (especially when pedalling for longer distances), and they slipped down a fair bit.
Lately Ive been using my mates pads, they are some really old Kona knee/shin pads (I cant find them on the net anywhere). They look kinda similar to the 661 4x4 pads, except they have an oval plastic piece over the knee, and 3 long pieces running down the shin. You can kind of see them in THIS and THIS pic.
I really liked them becuase they were nice and compact, didnt slip down too much, still had a hard shell, and were pretty comortable.
However, they were pretty hot and tight (due to the complete 'sock' round the leg), were a bit on the short side (although I kinda liked that), and, oh yeah, theyre not mine, so I have to give them back...
So yeah, sorry for waffling, but Im basically looking for some new pads, similar to those Kona ones, but a bit more breathable. Not fussed on makes etc at all, hell dont mind second hand, but any recommendations?
How much different are the 661 RaceLites to my Races?
So yeah, basically Im looking for something less chunlky than the 661 Races, but more substantial (ie have a hard shell) than the 4x4s.
Ta, Duane

My mate swears by his dainese shin guards for being protective but very comfortable for riding all the way around glentress.coiler - http://www.pinkbike.com/photo/1463278/
