Front mech with adaptor

Probikekit have the 2008 Centaur combined front mechs in stock, but only braze on. Is there any disadvantage to using one with an adaptor as opposed to a dedicated band on mech, perhaps a tendancy for a bit of play to creep in?

A braze-on with an adapter is heavier. Probably not any other real disadvantages (apart from aesthetics), but given they do make them band-on style it seems silly not to get one of those. The problem of course being that the rubbish UK distributors don't like to bring those in, as it means more things for them to stock.

I found my old braze-on with a band adaptor wouldn't align perfectly, i ended up bending the outer cage and changed to a band mech, no problem since.
  • Watch the various adaptors as well, some can place the mech further back or forwards of the usual braze on position central to the tube, which occasionally matters. I had recent problems getting a triple to work on a narrow axle as part of the the mech clouted the downtube with the first adaptor I tried, this stopped it moving in enough to shift down.
