Managed to wrap my trusty GT Avalanche 1 Discy around a rather aggressive lump of rock on the weekend buckling the bejaysus out of my front wheel. As i'm not keen on taking up mountain unicycling I'm looking at getting one of Merlin Cycles wheel sets made of

* XT Disc Hubs
* XC717 Disc Blacks
* ACI Black DB Spokes
* XT 8 Speed Cassete
* Panracer Fire XC Pro 2.1 Kevlar

Any thoughts? Ta in advance :)

    I got pretty much the same wheels as those from Merlin, except as I couldn't decide between XC717 and XM719 rims I got one of each, the stronger XM719 for the back as they were for my hardtail. I'm sure the XC717 would of been fine though.

    Cant fault them at all, I'm not used them loads and loads and loads, but they are still true and straight.

    XT cassettes are XT cassettes and the Panracers seem pretty decent.

    Good choice, can't go wrong with that set up.

    I have a very similar set up, but with Hope xc hubs, only had to true the rear rim once, & that was only a slight (hardly noticeable) wobble, but being a perfectionist... ;)

  • I'd opt for the DT spokes, and maybe a cinder for the tyre or trailraker if it is filthy where you are. I've had two wheelsets from merlin XM719 on pro II with Dt Comps and XC717 on deores with the same spoke, both have held up fine, the 717 haven't needed anything having been on my single speed and the 719's have needed a small correction after a botched landing but other than that have been fine for a summer of heavy riding and jumping.
