shimano wheels
I need to replace my rear wheel, a 700c Shimano R560 that's inexplicably developed a rather large dent. Well, I say inexplicably, but given I commute into the centre of London, I reckon the explanation lies in a large pothole somewhere along the A1.
I'm quite happy to use the same again, but notice that several Web sites aren't listing that model. They are, however, showing an R561. It's not immediately apparent that this is a replacement for the R560 or what the difference is. Can anyone say?
Just to make life more interesting, the shimano website lists neither the r560 nor the r561. It does have a wh-5600...
If anyone has alternative suggestions in the same price range, I'm also happy to consider. A colleague at work suggested Fulcrum Racing 7, but I haven't been able to find a web site selling these individually. Only as a set.
Your thoughts, as always, will be enthusiastically considered. Thanks.

Suspect they are all versions of the 105 wheel.
The 560 is a newer version of the 550, and the 5600 is probably the latest incarnation.
Think they will all be ok http://cycle.shimano-eu.com/publish/con ... elset.html
You can get the R560 wheelset from Chainreactioncylces but doesn't look like they have just the rear. They have the R550 rear though.
Might be worth getting the full racing 7 wheelset, and have a spare front.0 -
I had bought a pair of Shimano 560's last year and the back one lasted only 5 months before a spoke broke - I am only 10 stones and won't buy another wheel with 20 spokes!

I got a pair 5600's 2 weeks ago and on Friday after only 260 miles I broke 2 spokes in the back wheel. The shop where I purchased them from replaced the rear wheel. So I will have to seee how long this one lasts.0

the problem is those wheels rather than 20 spokes per se. mavic and campag wheels with low spoke count have outstanding reliability records. Give them a go.0 -

Bought mine last August, so about 4,500 miles ago. Been fine -- true, not broken. And I'm 12.5 stone. Only problem is the above-mentioned dent, which is probably pothole related rather than anything else. Not sure if more spokes mean a rim is less susceptible to denting.---

I have some R500 and R550's and never had any trouble with them. Just needed a minor tweek on the rear wheel once, but that was after about 500miles. Not needed attention this year.0

561's replaced the 560's in 2006 - think they were a bit lighter.
the 5600's replaced the 561s in 2007 and I think they are 10-speed only
I have set of the 561's they seem fine - very true on arrival and have stayed like that. very impressed for the money.0
