A bit of self-congratulation

Just wanted to announce the passing of my 1,000th mile commuting by bike this morning for which I have rewarded myself with a piece of cake.
Unimpressively this only equates to about 59 days of actual inbound/outbound work-related cycling since July 11th. More impressively it’s the equivalent of cycling to Lisbon!
Best of all, I've dropped about a stone and a half in that time (though I had it to lose) and tightened up by two notches on the belt - result!
Even better than that: awaiting Cycle2Work vouchers which are due in at the end of the week. What better reward than a nice new bike to join the collection?!

Congrats!
I 'probably' achieved the same a few weeks ago. 'Probably' because I ditched the cycle computer last month at about 900 miles. Figured all it really did was give me bragging rights (or not, most often!) and it was the single most unreliable thing on the bike. After plenty of hassle from it, its batteries died (yes only 900 miles and just over 2 months from getting it new) and I removed it and all it's related wiring from the bike!0 -
My bike computer's been a paragon of reliability on my commute (and generally), apart from the one day it suggested a max speed of 35mph had been reached on a morning when I cruised in barely turning the pedals over. Assuming the same route my journey is always within 0.05 mile which I think is pretty good going (and can probably be accounted for with lines picked etc).
It's a Cateye Wireless so there's a recommendation!0 -
Nice one... remember there's only 20 working days in the month... so that's 3 months solid commuting if you think about it like that.
getting inked tomorrow so after tonight, no cycling till next monday...@rsePurveyor of sonic doom

i recommend cateye cordless also- ive had some problems moving it between bikes but on the commuter its good & helps me to know when I have earned extra cake. 16850 km as of this am, 6100 of them this year, & 500 in the last 3 weeks........thats equivalent to about 50 packets of biscuits, mostly hoovered up at work meetings....fgg 16660

>>16850 km as of this am
Wow, that's about 100 LARGE fully loaded pizzas... (seriously)0 -
...well done homercles...you are now allowed to feel smug...especially when cruising past lazy motorists......all the way...'til the wheels fall off and burn...0

Homercles, having only started in July thats great.
I started in July as well, but July 1990..
At an average 4 days a week, 45 weeks a year and maybe averaging 20 miles/day..that makes eer, well em , kinda... yep definitley a lot!
Hope you pass my total!
p.s. I'm in SW London as well, where do you commute to?17 years commuting up and down the King\'s Road and i still don\'t get faster...0 -
Well done Homer!
No where near your 1000 miles but I am around the 600 or so since Christmas. Computer battery died last week so am starting again.FCN 100 -
My round trip is just under 18 miles so it's amazing how quickly it tots up, especially when you consider the trips that have been lost to things like violent hangovers, early off-site meetings, etc.
The July start was no coincidence - I have to admit that Tour fever inspired me, as did a house move and the fact that my tube commute went from 20 mins to 60 mins (bordering on unbearable). As it happens, it was a good summer to start as it left me in no doubt as to the realities of commuting by bike: heavy rains, semi-permanent darkness, constant kit washing, stuff hanging up all over the office, etc. You all know the drill!
Chriscommuter - I come in from Collier's Wood (Wimbledon) to Gray's Inn Road, see linky (which underplays the distance slightly, prob cause of the vagueness of the route line...)

See quite a few of the same faces on that route and have chatted/ chain ganged with a few over that time. I love those commutes the best.0 -
Well done dude - I started back commuting in August.... not looked back - even binned in my old job because it was too far to commute to every day...has to be done...
I am now slim, really fit again, can climb anything...all through commuting.... Think I've just hit a similar figure commuting....will have to check the training log.....you'll be doing that next...he he0 -

Am already there - how do you think I know such useless stuff about my commute0 -
Started off 1.5 - 2 stone overweight. been commuting on and off (about 2-3 days a week, 13-15 mile each way) since august. Approaching 1000 recorded miles on the commuter (forgot to press the 'start' button a couple of times) and been out on the MTB s well.
Not lost a lb!0 -
Homercles,
I do Wimbleon (near the village) to West End but go Putney/Kings Road route.
So i won't see you in the King's Road peloton!
Enjoy anyway.17 years commuting up and down the King\'s Road and i still don\'t get faster...0 -

I hope Wimbledon Hill isn't your start point - no need for that first thing in the morning!0
