Just finished my Hurlow and am well pleased with how it rides and looks.

I'm not surprised you're well pleased, that's a lovely bike. Do you have any before pics ? I love the old Shimano components and the Sugino cranks, and the re-spray looks very good.

What did you use to clean/shine up the alloy components ?

Thanks Ste_s, It was built from parts and is probably the most painful bike I have built cost wise.

Technically 1/2" to big as I have been measured at 3 independent builders and they all say 23", its a 23.5". I have to say it fits and feels good and is responsive, so I wonder if the perfect frame size is a bit of a myth. Certainly doesn't seem to affect me, it is only 22.5" c-c top tube though.

The frame is as I got it from Hilary Stone with a few odd marks polished out and some not. It is mostly n.o.s and slightly out of period with the ax stem and seat pin. I like them so I fitted them. Easier to list the s/hand bits which are the c/set, barcons and seat pin!

I have weighed it on the bathroom scales (not the best I know)and it comes out around 21lbs, from past experience I would say this is a fair indicator. glad you like it.

I have a 753 Henry burton to do now.
  • and a Hetchins, if I get my act together.

H Paul, I had to sell it for funds unfortunately :( It broke my heart if I'm honest. The good news is I sold it to a real dyed in the wool enthusiast who happens to be a nice bloke too and he loves it. Bob has as many bikes as you

Pete I will give you a ring mate. You still taking Pauls frame up north on your back? Crazy bloke

I once lived in Sheffield and my friend and I went to Manchester across Snake pass to pick up and RD400 engine. Which I had to put in this huge ex MOD/army rucksack while he rode home. The bike was a Honda H100, my bum hole still moves at the thought. I was able to rest the engine on the carrier sort of.....
