Hanging bike from front wheel.

I have some Park hooks attached to the rafters in my garage and currently hang my bikes by the saddle. Will hanging them by their front wheel do any harm?

  • No.

Think about it... MTB's are designed to be ridden off road, down gnarly twisty paths, over drop offs, across slippery roots, through bone shuddering rock gardens...

I doubt a hook in the garage is likely to cause much stress on the frame or joints... unless you go swinging from it like a monkey?

The only issue with hanging a bike by its front end is if it hangs slightly upside-down. Shouldn't really be an issue but keep an eye on any lubricant running out of the forks, as they aren't designed to be stored upside down. Common-sense really.

It was the fork thing I was concerned about - certainly no problem hanging a 12Kg weight from a wheel with spokes tensioned to many times that.

I am concerned that fork oil will move to places it shouldn't be if the thing is hung pretty well vertically upwards for prolonged periods of time.
  • i once had my bike upside down for a few days while the wheels were being trues and my juicy 5 brakes levers were both very slightly leaking!

not posible. they are sealed. maybe there was a bit of excess oil on top of the diaphram.
