Got a promotion and want a new bike, yippee

Currently considering

Focus Cayo or izalco but unsure without riding it first
Planet x carbon jobby
Last years cannondale six 13 for 1500 from evans

I ride a cannondale r400 atm, like the frame geom, very quick, but dislike the sora shifters, cant shift on the drops and the lack of trim on the front mech, I would prefer triple to compact, I live in the lakes, no amount of sales patter will convince me that a compact will get me home over the passes with 100 in my legs!

So Ive got a budget of around 1500 and I want something light and fast, I dont like sportive geometry as I prefer to get on with it rather than take in the view.

Your advice, comments on the bikes bove and other suggestions would be appreciated

Are the focus/planet x bikes as good as they say, or is this the mags protecting their advertising revenue?

Thanks
Ian

What about a Scott CR1. Plenty of good deals on the 2007 models at the mo. Very frisky bike. Could be what you're after

bloody hell are you me... ive got a cannondale r400 from 2003 in blue with sora and just two weeks ago i upgraded to the Planet X full carbon bike.

I havent ridden the other bikes you mention but the Planet X is incredible, i got on it for the first time when i had it delivered and it just fitted. Rode it and it was so unbelievably light i had to grin. Its stiff and responsive, i couldn't recommend it enough. I dont know whether you can get a triple on it though and that might be an issue for you.

I don't know alot about geometry but it is just as comfortable as my R400, if i was you i'd get something else, i dont want too many people on Planet X bikes :P

Seriously, any of those bikes will be nice. But i can't recommend the Planet X highly enough. The service was excellent as well.

this is my Cannondale (Post crash):

Thanks for your thoughts, how much lighter is it than the 'dale? never weighed mine, just know its heavier after following a herd of cows!

Bike looks good, very slopy top tube hope you are enjoying it.
I think my 'dale must be 02 stock looking at yours, cant see much crash damage

there is no crash damage as i had to have a new set of forks (thats why they arent the same colour), new handlebars, new gear levers, new stem, and a new back wheel!

ive not weighed my 'dale but i know its heavier. (it has to be, it doesnt weight 8.4kg!)

have a look in this thread:
