I'm considering upgrading my mechanical Tektro disc brakes on my Aggressor, one of the misn reasons is the cable for the rear keeps gettting stuck in the outer, I think due to water penetration adna little corrosion, consequently I can't be bothered to strip the cable every other week.

How do these Shimano brakes rack up for the money, I read a good review on bike magic, they're on ebay for a penny under 50 notes and seem good value to me.

Any input would be great.

Riding style is mostly trails and XC but nothing too aggressive

I got the M535's as standard on my bike when i bought it, and to honest, i didn't like them one bit, I had to upgrade the pads and the rotor size (to 180) before they became acceptable.
On CRC there are so many people who love them.
But that was just my experience.

I changed the brakes on my GT aggressor XC2 from Tektro mechanical to Shimano 535.

Paid £59 from Evans for the complete kit a while ago, think you can pick them up now for around £50 for front and same for back.

Out the box on the bike, shorten the brake hose and bleed in less than an hour. They are so easy to set up and align it only takes seconds to do. The back brake hose fits in the hanger under the tube as it’s the same frame as the GT Avalanche that has hydro discs.

They come standard with resin pads and take a few hours to bed in, after that you only need touch the brake leaver with your finger to lock them up so they do need a bit of time to get used to after using mechanical discs.

They have the same pads as the Shimano XT, XTR which is a resin compound, for more aggressive riding you can change them for metal or ceramic pads.

You won’t be disappointed with these brakes and they are probably the best value for money you can buy as a complete set.

Well after a dable on t'internerd I found these ar £45 for the front and £45 for the rear at Dave Hindes Cycles in Northwich (didn;t realise he did MTB stuff I thought it was a road racers kinda place).

So I bought them both, took them home, 45 minutes later front and rear brakes are now Hydro Deore's :D

Little blat up 'n down the road and they were instantly better than the cables that came off, can't wait for them to bed in
