Advice with improving front mech
I'd like to introduce you to a project bike I let my bike shop handle.

The crankset is compact as you can say, and I'm using a normal shimano durace double on it. Its working fine, but is somewhat tight, as in I have to do some work trying to shift up. How can easen this process? Will a compact specific derailler also help ? Thanks. [/url]

From looking at the bends on your cables that could be the problem as they are rather sharp. I know there is a make of cable that lets you do this with Shimano, name escapes me but it looks like you've got them fitted. Nevertheless, assuming your front mech isn't sticking it will probably be a cable problem. I use a standard mech with a compact and it shifts perfectly ok, a dedicated mech might give a slicker shift but it would not move any more smoothly.0

well it looks like he is using Nokon outers which do allow tight curves, though you may be right that it is a cabling problem0

if you wanted hidden cables you should have specced Campag , seriously, looks like there's potential for a lot of friction in your cables (Nokon or not), sorry for pi**ing on your bonfire..........(get it?)
Nice bike by the way.0 -
Didn't want to go campy, I wanted to stick to my old Shimano 9 speed. Serves me well...0

I fitted a new thriple from mech recently and it was a devil to shift int othe biger rings. It felt like I was in danger of bending the lever. Then I realised that I has the cable routed incorrectly at the clamp. On Shimano mechs there is a small pip at the bottom of the clamp and it looks like the cable goes under it, but it don't. Routed it over the pip and, hey presto, shifting action was light as a feather. Check it out.I have only two things to say to that; Bo***cks0
