My nephew - age 11 - isn't that fit (bit of an understatement) but he has expressed aninterest in cycling and likes to do things with his uncle. so i want to get him into it. i'm thinking of getting him a cycling computer for christmas which i think will motivate him especially if he has a target to aim for and can give me updates on how he is doing.

what would be a realistic target for him to go for. i was thinking like something about 7 miles at 10 mph to start with. he has a mountain bike and where they live is quite hilly.

anyone have a clue if this is about realistic for his age? or ideas on other ways to help him get the bug?

  • 7 miles at 10mph on road is fine, off road is adifferent matter.
    Advocate of disc brakes.
  • 5 - 7miles is about right , My son started at 9 , 2 years later he can 50miles easy and give me kicking on the hills - so be warned !
