Which way do i turn it to make it harder to get out of?

This morning my foot released itself automatically when i was pulling away from some lights. Do i turn it towards the Plus sign or the Minus sign to make it harder to release my foot?

All the Shimano SPD's that i have adjust their spring tension by turning the allen bolt clockwise (i.e. toward the plus sign) to increase the tension.

    Don't know about other makes.

Was that with single release cleats? (SH51)
The only time I've ever had that happen was with pedals and cleats that were very very worn.

yeah it was, and no my cleats aren't very worn at all.

so do i want to increase or decrease tension?

    Increase certainly.
Though, as I said, I've never really had a problem.
Typically, when I get a new pair of pedals, I have the pedals on a fairly low release tension (but still without unintentional releases), and as the pedals / cleats wear, I increase the tension slightly.

Be careful that you don't unscrew the screw completely.

so i shall put my allen key in and turn it clockwise? And then my pedals will become harder to relase from?

yes, i was definitely clipped in properly. This has happened a few times, not recently as i tend to use egg beaters rather than SPDs nowadays.
