how can i get my gears of the handle bar

i nee help with gettin my gears of the handle bars as this is an old bike and the handle bar is slightly bent an i want to get a new one

im in the prgre of ixing my brakes nad i know how to do that but ive been searchin the web and there is nothing helpin me soo

can enyone tel me please
im 15 and ken to learn

    have a good old read of the park tools website.

    and if you could identify what gears you have that would help.

    but basically undo a screw and slide them off.

    I'm pretty sure you're saying you cant get the shifter off as it's not the clamping type and your bars are bent meaning you cant slide it off. Is that right?

    If so then you only have one option really, and thats bust out the hacksaw.

    Slide the shifter as far from the bend as possible and then cut the bars with a hacksaw just below the bend where they are still straight. Then file down any burr / rough metal from the cut and simply slide the shiter off.

    Obviously this is a last resort so try what Nick suggested 1st ;)
