Wobbly Front Wheel - Strange Cause

This is really boring, but I though I'd share it.

I noticed that when I lent on my bike, applying sideways pressure to the front wheel it moved sideways by about half a centimetre.

I took the wheel off, checked the forks, the steering tube, the wheel, the hub.

All seemed solid, so I put the wheel back on.

Still wobbly.

After another more thorough check I noticed that the paint had flaked off the inside of the fork where the hub connected and had become stuck fast to the hub nut, this is what was sliding against the fork.

Removed the paint and hey presto, no wheel movement.

Not really wanting to carry this on, but anybody else had a problem with their bike that ended up being caused by something quite strange?
