Proposed new track in Leicester

Was shopping at Beaumont Leys on Saturday, where there was a stand advertising a proposed velodrome and speedway facility nearby. Does anyone know anything about this? I know next to nothing about track, but have heard track days can be great fun- i'd certainly be keen to see something built so close to home.

    and Ste_S mentioned it in the 'Jealous of the Youngsters' thread. It certainly is great news - it would be my closest track too and might tempt me to dust off my track bike again.

    I saw somewhere that Patricia Hewitt (local MP?) was asking for comments on the development on her website, so if you're local it might be worth adding your voice to that debate.

    Thanks for that. We could do with something like- some of Leicester's sports facilities are woeful. They were asking people to sign up in favour of it - which i did- but was so busy it was difficult to work out what was what. Got a feeling i could get roped into 5-a-side by my mates too!

    There's a couple of threads on VR about it with a bit more info. The devolpment has yet to receive planning permission - hopefully the only (minor) sticking point is the noise from the proposed speedway circuit.

    As i'm training (sort of) for track league next year, I should be Master's World Champ* by the time Leicester opens. See you there !
