Flat bar road bike recommendations

I've been toying with the idea of a flat bar road bike for the past few years, but I've never seen it through for one reason or another. The bike that is really catching my eye at the moment is this little gem from Ridgeback:

The bike will be used for training rides, club rides and maybe the odd audax. The only criteria I have, other than flat bars, is that the bike can take mudguards. I particularly like the disc brakes on this one (MTB background).
There are loads of alternatives out there from the likes of Giant etc, but I'd quile like something a bit different and not run of the mill. For example, does anyone have knowledge of the Condor Strada?
My budget is ideally £1000 or less!. Looking forward to your suggestions...

What about a Planet-X Kaffenback, not run of the mill, and it's steel. The builds are very customisable, email them your budget and preferences and they will quote you.
They are currently doing an offer on Kaffenback and Uncle John flat bar builds. You can download a build sheet excel file that shows the possible configurations.0
