carbon fork steerer

Maybe just put the spacers above the stem? It'll save the forks if you decide to sell them and is completely undoable.0

There should be an allen key bolt on the top of the expander. Just loosen it off and the expander will lift out. Just pop it back in once you've cut the forks, tighten it up again and bob's yer uncle.0

Sometimes you can remove the bolt completely and the wedge will still be, well, wedged...... the hole that the bolt came out of, although threaded, will actually be allen shaped....... pop a key in there and it should loosen!
Good luck!If you're as fat as me, all bikes are bendy.0 -
Just what forums are for...I've removed it completely, although the expander ring was difficult to remove and the conical nut fell to the bottom of the steerer, but persevered and got there, thanks folks.0

Glad you got it sorted.
Just for future reference.Don't use a star nut in a carbon steerer. It will compromise the integrity of the carbon. Read, bugger it up.0
