frame measurements for 57mm deep-drop brakes
I have just about plucked up the courage to order myself a xacd titanium frame from china.
I want an audax frame and wanted them to confirm that the seatstays were correct to fit 57mm deep drop brakes to. They replied that for these brakes they would fit the seatstay bridge 365mm from the dropout centre to the bridge centre.
Does this measurement sound correct? IIRC a 700c wheel rim actually has a 622mm diameter? Therefore 311mm radius + 57mm brake drop – 10mm for the rim depth = 358mm
Will this all fit in with the height adjustability of the brakes?

Hello again jkm. Sounds like you are building a bike just like I have done!
I have two Audax bikes:
A titanium frame (designed for 57mm brakes), the centre of axle to centre of brake bolt is about 360mm. This does not use the full drop on the brakes ie the blocks have another 5 or 6mm in the slots. It does give sufficient clearence for 28mm tyres and guards but makes it difficult to make the guard look neat, it looks squeezed at the brake bridge.
I also have a steel frame designed and built by yours truly. I set the brake bridge at 365mm which makes full use of the 57mm drop brakes.
So it sounds to me like XACD know what they are talking about.0 -
thats splendid, sets my mind at rest a bit. thanks.0
